SPACES BETWEEN
[MUSIC] [MYTHOS] [2]
/// MYTHOS ///As you wander the verdant jungle, navigating large fronds and twisting vines, a whisping wind kicks up around you. Your body shivers at the drastic temperature change. As you reel from the sudden shift, a silence comes over the jungle… only the blowing of the cool air sounds in your ears… as you center yourself in this sudden white noise, a shimmering spiral has appeared in a small clearing. As you approach, a sudden flash of light and a ringing in your ears… a sharp pain strikes your palm as a gentle push from an unseen force sends you into the shimmering spiral…
You emerge from the portal…
A normal neighborhood, far removed from the turmoil and chaos of beyond…
Streetlights and sidewalks and soffits, between limitless lawns and yards, enveloped in an unassuming haze of carefree splendor. Here lies everything and nothing. Between lives, between worlds, between the very realm of time and space…
Large culverts - storm drains and subterranean worlds - nothing more than blackness. They contain no depth; only the appearance of distance, and carry the refuse from the summer rains to a place far from our own world…
Buzzing green boxes - a shell. What lies within? Nothing. Only energy radiates here.
Signs and symbols and streetsigns and structures of direction - guide you home from a long day spent beyond the hedges and pavestones. Large trees, years in the making, welcome you back…
The largest trees you have ever seen.
Beyond, past many streets and homes and others, stands another place.
A park.
Plastic in nature, with some spiraling metal structures and hollow slides to nowhere… and everywhere. Beholden to no one, these contraptions bring bliss to all who clamber upon them. They’ve been there since time immemorial - who built them? They stand tall like relics and monuments to civilizations past - a symbol of youth; of eternal yet temporary joy. For as long as the earth has stood so has this place… as far as you know.
Beyond the park lies a creek, nestled behind a looming grocery store.
Twisting and turning, with low water and high reeds, a small stream dissuades those not old enough from crossing. During winter it freezes, creating a new path. During the summer, during the rains, it rises - a natural barrier to spaces beyond the park and within the woods. Old places are now cut off, only to return to the realm of exploration after the rainy season. The park is no longer a place of play, or honor, but a place to be avoided lest you be lost to the rushing waters that surround it.
On this spring day, before the rains have swallowed the earth, and after a brisk adventure amongst the playplaces, you venture to the creek, guided by a shallow whisper, where a new structure catches your eye…
A white bedpost and boards, used as a makeshift crossing.
You cross.
As you tread lightly across the mysterious structure, you notice a whisping in the air.
One of the moss-covered boards defies your gait, sending you slipping. As you jolt your hand to one of the bedposts to regain balance, a sharp prick jabs at your palm… you flinch, and look back to the source of the whisping…
A rushing sound… like air being sucked from a large, empty room…
It grows louder as you step to the opposite bank. Whisping and whirring and spiraling energy is engulfing your senses. You realize that the sky is growing dark as a large, swirling portal is consuming you, pulling you inside…
/// MYTHOS ///DREAM CORP INTERNAL MEMOA park, a portal, a world unseen…

Embark on a journey through memories, time and space, and fade away....
THE SPACE IN BETWEEN is the first “official” release from DISTANT THUNDER of DREAM CORP. Original compositions inspired by youthful adventures amongst parks and forests are the guiding light of this work. As the first wholly original work, it’s rough around the edges. A first foray into digital audio work, synthesizer use and mixing and mastering, its “lo-fi” quality is a guidepost on the musical journey of DISTANT THUNDER. Even looking back now I can see the vision, and appreciate it - hopefully, even amongst its grainy and scratched surface you can find some enjoyment in it as well…
